The animal above has to be my favorite. That's right. Of all the animals that roam the Earth, the tortoise is my favorite. The tortoise is one of the most interesting creatures, yet it is under-appreciated. There are many reasons why the tortoise is amazing, and why I want one as a pet.
For a first, tortoises are vegetarian, like me. This would mean that there would be no need to bring meat products in our house, and I would still be promoting a vegetarian lifestyle. At times, might even be able to produce a smaller version of my dinner, to feed my lovely pet.
Another reason is that tortoises aren't very fast creatures, and exhibit laziness, like me. There is something I find appealing when I have similar qualities as an animal; I feel as if there is more of a bond. Having a slow animal means that I don't have to go through the burden of tasks required for fast animals, such as walking them, or making sure they don't run away.
Thirdly, tortoises are well protected and live long, so I don't have to worry about seeing my lovely pet die. Since tortoises have a heavy shell, they are quite protected against physical damage. The worst part of having a pet, is when they pass away, a reason why I don't want common animals like a cat or a dog. But some tortoises can live a very long time, and be my lifelong companion.
There are many interesting things about the tortoise too. For example, they have no teeth, but almost beaks. They have a significantly amazing sense of smell, and they can even smell with their throats. They are one of the few creatures that have an exoskeleton and an endoskeleton. Tortoises are amazing creatures overall, and have prehistoric origins. These creatures are relics, and should be treated so. Although some of my reasons were personal, society should realize that tortoises are actually not as "lame" as they are perceived to be. Hopefully, my parents read this blog and buy me a tortoise!
